Positioning key messages where they will be noticed

The top left quadrant of the page is an ideal position to place key messages.

The visitor’s eye will generally track across to the right side of the page before scanning down the page.

Examples of key message placement can be found on the mainstream news websites, for example:

www.ninemsn.com.au

www.thevine.com.au

Positioning content above and below “the fold”

Studies by the Neilson Norman group have shown that visitors will readily scroll below “the fold” to read additional content, provided that there is no break in the content at the end of the page. Long pages, with content below the fold, are commonly used on the most popular websites, for example www.yahoo.com
